Declining revenue, part of EPISTAR equipment is suspended

Since December 2018 sales hit a new low since January 2013, order visibility has declined, so LED epitaxial wafer and chip maker EPISTAR has reduced production.

In December 2018, EPISTAR’s consolidated revenue reached NT$1.99 billion (US$38.63 million), a decrease of 12.33% from the previous month and a decrease of 42.02% from the same period last year.

In the fourth quarter of 2018, the consolidated revenue was NT$4.236 billion, down 24.99% from the previous month and down 28.65% from the same period of last year. The comprehensive income for the year 2018 was NT$20.327 billion, down 19.88% year-on-year.

In response to the reduction in orders, EPISTAR said it will extend the upcoming Lunar New Year holiday to two weeks from January 28. In addition, the company has suspended the operation of some MOCVD equipment since the fourth quarter of 2018.

At the same time, LED packaging service provider Everlight Electronics said that its consolidated revenue in December was 1.609 billion Taiwan dollars, the lowest level since March 2013. In the fourth quarter of 2018, Yiguang Electronics’ consolidated revenue was NT$5.617 billion, down 10.62% from the previous quarter and down 16.42% year-on-year; the overall revenue for 2018 was NT$24.083 billion, down 11.91% year-on-year.

LED packaging service provider Advanced Optoelectronic Technology also announced its consolidated revenue for December, reaching NT$273.2 million, down 17.71% from the previous month and down 41.39% from the same period last year. In the fourth quarter, the consolidated revenue was NT$975.8 million, a decrease of 32.18% from the previous quarter and a decrease of 36.84% from the same period of last year. The comprehensive income for the year of 2018 was NT$4.638 billion, down 22.47% year-on-year.
